Moscone Center is San Francisco's primary large-scale meeting facility. In order to maintain San Francisco's place in an increasingly competitive marketplace, resources are needed not only for sales and marketing efforts, but also to update and expand convention facilities. Investing in the convention center is vital to increasing visitor business in San Francisco.
The economic impact of convention groups is not limited to the hotels located near Moscone. Tourist attractions, retail, restaurants, transportation and many other segments of the city benefit when conventions are in town. The dollars they spend ripple into the entire city through “compression” (hotels in other parts of the city experiencing higher occupancy when convention attendees fill the rooms nearest the convention center), pay checks, local purchases and taxes paid by visitors.
The TID, in partnership with the City, will provide a base of resources to renovate Moscone Center and explore the expansion of the facilities.
